Project Management – 5 Lessons

I recently saw a quote floating around Twitter about the negative aspect of pulling the ladder up behind you as you crash through the glass ceiling. I commented at the time about the importance of paying it forward and mentoring girls and women along the way.

In an effort to continue that thought process, I created a special edition of the Tech Savvy Women, Women in S.T.E.M. video series to talk about some of the lessons I have learned when it comes to managing projects in the world of technology. Hindsight is always 20/20 and I wish I had learned something of these things at the beginning of the my career in technology.

Hopefully if you are just starting out, you win be able to take away something of benefit for your career.

The 5 Lessons in a nutshell are:

  1. Technology is the easiest part.
  2. Get buy-in before you enter the conference room.
  3. Learn how to sell.
  4. Make friends across the organization.
  5. Treat your vendors well.

But there is so much more to the story. Take a listen to this quick, but valuable 7 minute video.
